McArdle in contention for Scunthorpe return

Scunthorpe defender Rory McArdle is closing on a return to the squad for the visit of Cambridge.

The centre-back has not featured since January 4 because of a hamstring injury and illness and, having been close to a recall at the weekend, will be hoping to get the nod for the midweek game.

Yann Songo’o is another looking to make his way back after a knee injury which has kept him out since December 21, while fellow midfielder Jordan Hallam is over his hamstring problem.

Defender Junior Brown (knee) is also close to a return but Kgosi Ntlhe (Achilles) is a month away from fitness.

Cambridge defender Harry Darling faces a late fitness test after being forced off with injury at half-time in Saturday’s win over Newport.

George Taft, who came on for the second half, will deputise again if Darling is not passed fit.

Midfielder Jack Roles, who has missed the last three matches with a back problem, has returned to light training but is not scheduled to start working outdoors until next week.

Luke Hannant (ankle), Jabo Ibehre (knee) and Sam Smith (glandular fever) are still sidelined.
