Arsenal the latest club tipped to move for Leicester's James Maddison

As per a report from the Daily Mail, Arsenal are ready to challenge Manchester United for the summer signing of Leicester City star James Maddison.

Foxes stint

Maddison, a 23-year-old attacking midfielder, made the move to the King Power Stadium in the summer of 2018, on the back of a stellar campaign in the Championship with Norwich City.

And, despite his lack of Premier League experience, the Coventry youth product subsequently went on to take to the rigours of top-flight football like a duck to water.

Maddison played a crucial role in Leicester's top-half finish, starting in all but 3 of the Foxes' Premier League outings.

He also racked up a none-too-shabby 7 goals and 7 assists in the league alone, with the midfielder's wicked set-piece delivery and free-kick prowess having lit up the King Power throughout the campaign.

Perfectly showcasing just how impressive a creative outlet Maddison proved in 2018/19 was the fact that he created more chances than any other player in the Premier League last season.

United links

Maddison's creative streak has since carried into the opening half of the new season, too, with 14 direct goal contributions.

The English international's form has proven crucial to Leicester's surprise run to 3rd in the Premier League table.

And it is this consistent excellence which has inevitably led to links between the midfielder and some of England's top clubs.

The outfit most persistently-touted as a potential destination, to this point, have been Manchester United.

Despite the Red Devils' January capture of Bruno Fernandes, reports nevertheless continue to circulate that Maddison remains a prime summer target of the Old Trafford hierarchy.

Arsenal enter race?

As per the aforementioned report from the Daily Mail, though, another Premier League heavyweight appear ready to throw their name into the hat for Maddison's signature.

The outfit in question? Arsenal.

Mikel Arteta is said to be eyeing a squad overhaul at the Emirates this summer, ahead of his first full season in charge of the Gunners.

And Maddison is chief among a long list of targets, also including the likes of Dayot Upamecano and Odsonne Edouard.

The Leicester midfielder is no doubt viewed as a player who could act as a link between Arsenal's midfield and attack, and also fits into Mikel Arteta's vision of a 'young and vibrant' side.

As such, a summer 'head-to-head' between the north Londoners and Man United could well be on the horizon.
