George Thomson bags brace as second-placed Harrogate ease past Yeovil

Harrogate moved within four points of National League leaders Barrow as George Thomson scored twice in a 3-0 win over fellow promotion-chasers Yeovil.
Thomson’s brace sandwiched a Jack Diamond strike on a cold night in Yorkshire, with Yeovil seeing their winless league run extended to five games as they finished the game with 10 men.
Yeovil had the first real chance of the evening as Warren Burrell was called upon to block Remeao Hutton’s chance in the box, with Harrogate responding when Jack Muldoon hit the side-netting.
Muldoon was involved in setting up Jack Diamond but his effort was blocked before the home side took the lead two minutes before the break, with Muldoon once again in the thick of things.
Harrogate’s top-scorer – who has recently signed a new deal – beat his man down the left and set up Thomson to fire home.
The lead was then doubled just seven minutes after the interval as Jon Stead and Thomson combined to set up Diamond.
An almighty scramble in the Harrogate box ended with Connor Hall clearing off the line but the game was as good as over 17 minutes from time when Thomson slotted home after Lloyd Kerry’s effort.
The visitors suffered more misery at the death as they lost Myles Hippolyte following a late challenge four minutes into second-half stoppage time.
