George Williams rescued a late point for out-of-form Forest Green with an 88th-minute equaliser in a 1-1 Sky Bet League Two draw at Oldham.
Williams curled home a drive from the edge of the area to cancel out Gevaro Nepomuceno’s 56th-minute opener at a windswept Boundary Park as the visitors collected just their second point from their last seven games.
Oldham came within inches of taking the lead midway through the first half as Zak Dearnley tried his luck from 20 yards out. The ball rebounded off the crossbar with Jonny Smith forcing a diving stop from Lewis Thomas on the follow-up.
Aaron Collins almost levelled just before half-time for Rovers with a half-volley that Gary Woods did very well to tip over.
Nepomuceno struck 11 minutes after the break as Zak Mills’ cross had been cleared into his path, with goalkeeper Thomas defeated as the ball bounced in front of him.
The away side pushed forward and Williams’ free-kick was met by the head of team-mate Liam Kitching, whose effort clipped the crossbar in the 79th minute.
Williams had the final word with his late equaliser, though Nepomuceno and Forest Green’s Carl Winchester might have won it for their respective sides in added time.
