Hodges proud as Wimbledon bounce back to draw with Blackpool

Glyn Hodges was proud of his side’s response to their midweek thrashing as they held Blackpool to a 0-0 draw on home soil.

The Dons had been beaten 5-0 by Oxford on Tuesday night, and though they were unable to grab a first win since January 18, it proved a well-earned point at Kingsmeadow as both sides spurned chances to win a game made difficult by high winds.

And Hodges is hoping that the result can provide a platform as they look to distance themselves from the League One relegation zone.

“I was really pleased with the reaction,” he said.

“It wasn’t a fun journey back on Tuesday night after the defeat to Oxford.

“We asked for a reaction from the players after Tuesday night’s result and that’s exactly what we got.

“On another day we could have won it, but I think a point was a fair result.

“Hopefully we can put some consistent performances together because we play well and then the next game we don’t.

“We had our chances in the first half and then had to defend and be resolute in the second half to get a point.

“It was a tough game with the conditions for both sides. It was a game of two halves really in all honesty.

“We’re pleased with a point in tough conditions.”

A draw for the Seasiders saw them maintain their two-year unbeaten record against the Dons and give their supporters something to smile about after the recent sacking of Simon Grayson.

Chances went begging from both sides, with Taylor Moore and Kwesi Appiah both going close, while Joe Day was on song to deny Nathan Delfouneso.

And though they could not snatch the points, Blackpool’s caretaker manager David Dunn was left delighted with the performance that his temporary charges put in for him.

“In terms of their effort I can’t fault any single one of them,” he said.

“If I’m nit-picking then our passes and touches in the area and final third could have been better.

“They gave us their all. First half they did really well in really difficult conditions with the wind.

“I knew if we could get in without them scoring, we’d have a really good chance to go on and win the game.

“It’s the same again. At Bristol and then today they’ve given their all.

“After the 5-0 on Tuesday night we knew there would be a reaction against us because it’s a different game.

“Anyone who was here watching the game would be relatively pleased with how the lads performed.

“It was a game of two completely different halves.

“We were camped in their half for the second half but unfortunately we us we couldn’t break them down.”
