Corey Blackett-Taylor’s stoppage time goal secured Tranmere a first Sky Bet League One victory since December 21 as they left it late to win 3-2 at Shrewsbury.
Mark Ellis and Alex Woodyard gave Tranmere a 2-0 half-time lead before Aaron Pierre and Callum Lang pulled Shrewsbury level.
But Blackett-Taylor had the final say as third-bottom Tranmere moved to within five points of AFC Wimbledon.
Shrewsbury striker Daniel Udoh fired an early effort into the side netting before Tranmere took a ninth minute lead as defender Ellis turned in Blackett-Taylor’s low cross from the left.
Tranmere doubled their advantage five minutes later as Woodyard followed up to convert the rebound after home goalkeeper Max O’Leary initially saved a Kieron Morris shot.
Shrewsbury reduced the arrears in the 56th minute when Pierre headed in a Sean Goss corner.
The hosts were level five minutes later as Lang cut in from the left and arrowed a shot to the top corner of the net.
Both teams then created chances as they chased a winner before Blackett-Taylor ran onto a long clearance from goalkeeper Scott Davies to score Tranmere’s late winner.
