Magnificent Matthews display praised by both managers

Bolton goalkeeper Remi Matthews earned praise from both managers after Wanderers and Accrington drew 0-0.
Matthews pulled off two outstanding stops to deny Jordan Clark – the second of which came from the last kick of the game.
Bottom-of-the-table Wanderers had lost their five previous games, four of them by a one-goal margin, including last Tuesday’s late 2-1 defeat at Blackpool.
“Clark, I do believe is the best winger in League One by a country mile,” said Bolton boss Keith Hill.
“He had a brilliant chance and it was a brilliant save. I was heartbroken on Tuesday and I would have been heartbroken again, but it was a magnificent save by Remi.
“I am just so glad he saved it and I am pleased with our determination to keep a clean sheet.
“But we should have taken advantage of the first half when we played really well. However, I am pleased with a point against an excellent side. We nullified their threats to a certain degree.
“And I am pleased with the response after a week when we have been defeated twice narrowly.
“I have got to congratulate the players for seeing it through when against Blackpool we just didn’t.
“To turn that into a win we have to make sure that when we are hot and we are creating those opportunities, we have to score them in the first half.”
Stanley boss John Coleman, whose side won 7-1 in the reverse fixture last November, praised Bolton’s approach after the side’s losing streak.
“We got absolutely battered in the first half,” he said. “We could not have complained if Bolton had come in 3-0 up.
“They were first to every ball, they passed it well and used their target man (Daryl Murphy) really well up front.
“So there were a lot of harsh words at half-time. And in the second half I thought we were excellent.
“Our keeper has hardly had to make a save, while their keeper has made two worldies.
“We had a scramble on the line we are disappointed we couldn’t force over.
“But we asked more questions in the second half and also defended really well.
“We had conceded eight goals in three games and that was a worry.
“I would like to have won the game but I am not saying we should be winning because Bolton are a good side.
“No one has done to us this season what Bolton did in the first half, so it bodes well for the future for them.”
