Dunn hopes Blackpool make a habit of late drama

Caretaker boss David Dunn hopes Blackpool have found a happy knack for scoring late winners after Joe Nuttall netted in injury time to secure a 2-1 win over Ipswich.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall put the home side in front only for Freddie Sears to draw Ipswich level on 54 minutes.

But Blackpool dug deep to secure all three points as Nuttall glanced home Liam Feeney’s deep cross in the third minute of stoppage time.

The victory follows Dewsbury-Hall’s late strike in Tuesday’s 2-1 win over Bolton and sees Blackpool climb to 13th in League One.

“It is always great to get a late goal, particularly at home in front of the fans,” said Dunn, who took on the temporary role on February 12.

“We managed it on Tuesday night and we have done it again today, hopefully we are making a habit out of it.

“It shows the togetherness that we have as a team at the minute, and the lads are all working really hard.

“It was hard in the last 10 or 15 minutes and the lads were holding on after a tough game in midweek.

“But the players stuck together when they needed to at the end, and we stayed in the game and ground out an important win.

“I am delighted for the lads to get this result because I felt that they deserved it after everything they put in at the end, as Ipswich threw everything they had at us.”

The late winner was Nuttall’s first league goal since the two sides’ previous meeting in November.

And Dunn said: “I am so pleased for Joe as well, to get his goal, he is a great kid.

“We knew this would be hard as Ipswich are a better side than people think, and in difficult conditions I am really happy to get the win.”

Ipswich manager Paul Lambert refused to hide his disappointment as he felt his side should have been awarded a penalty.

“The end result is a tough one to take, because I really felt that we deserved to take something out of the game and probably win it,” Lambert said.

“We were unlucky not to get certain decisions in the first half as I think the foul on Freddie Sears should have been a penalty for a clear foul.

“Their goal came from us not dealing with the threat as the ball has travelled a long way, and Luke Garbutt and Josh Earl have not dealt with it. We need to learn from these mistakes.

“On the whole we are playing quite well at the moment, but both myself and the players know that you simply cannot defend like we did for the goals and expect to win games.

“If we want to do something before the end of the season, we cannot concede those types of goals.”
