Plymouth boss Ryan Lowe: I couldn’t have asked for a better performance

Ryan Lowe “couldn’t have asked for a better performance” from his promotion-chasing Plymouth side as they beat Macclesfield to register back-to-back home wins and move within a point of the League Two summit.

On-loan Blackpool striker Ryan Hardie made it seven goals in 13 games with a 33rd-minute opener.

Wing-back George Cooper, who set up Hardie’s opener, scored twice in the second half as Argyle edged within a point of new leaders Crewe.

Argyle boss Lowe said: “I thought the boys were fantastic in every department. The work ethic, the runs on and off the ball, the passes, I couldn’t have asked for a better performance.

“It’s another three points, another three goals, and a clean sheet which is always pleasing. But I’ve got to give credit to Macclesfield because they have come here and had a go.

“Fair play to Mark (Kennedy) they deserve a lot of credit because they’ve had a good go.

“We knew we would have to be patient and we were. Macclesfield tried to keep the back door shut, solid, and their front three were a threat.

“But we have to look at ourselves and how we break teams like that down and I think Ryan’s finish was just calm and collected as always.

“He should have had another one. I believe it was over the line but again, it is what it is. For him as a striker it’s disappointing. He’s always in the right place at the right time.

“A lot of credit goes to Ryan and George for the goals, but Scotty Wootton’s clearance off the line and Alex Palmer’s save one-on-one deserve a mention because they were at vital moments of the game.

“It’s another win in the right direction.”

Macclesfield head coach Kennedy said: “I thought we were outstanding. For anyone that wasn’t at the game, they will only see the scoreline.

“I am a very black and white guy, I don’t talk nonsense and I say it as it is. I am always incredibly supportive of the lads and I have a go at them at the right times.

“I thought today we were magnificent, we were on the end of an unbelievably harsh result.

“We missed three one-on-ones, we had one cleared off the line, we played some outstanding football and I thought our game was brilliant.

“But I look at their second goal, I have to give them credit for their creativity and end product. It was outstanding.

“A couple of disappointments in a couple of their goals, but I thought the lads were top today.

“I have said to the boys if that is the barometer of our performances, we will have no problems.

“Goals change games, it is something that has cost us this year. Not errors but catastrophic errors.

“I am disappointed with the scoreline, I don’t want to lose any game. But performances will eventually win you games. I said to them ‘you are going to be fine, you are a pleasure to work with’.”
