Antoine Griezmann reveals hopes of securing no.7 jersey at Barcelona

Barcelona star Antoine Griezmann has admitted that he hopes to be handed the opportunity to don the club's no.7 shirt at some point in the future.

Griezmann joins Barca

12 months on from the Frenchman turning down a Camp Nou switch in favour of remaining with Atletico Madrid, speculation linking Griezmann with a move to La Liga champions Barcelona reemerged in force last summer.

This came on the back of the 29-year-old confirming his intention to finally depart the Wanda Metropolitano back in May:

'It's been an incredible five years. Thank you very much for everything. I will take you in my heart.'

And, despite hugely-conflicting subsequent rumours regarding the extent of the Blaugrana's interest, it was nevertheless widely-assumed that Barca would eventually clinch a deal for Griezmann.

As such, the attacker's move to the Camp Nou finally being made official back in July came as little surprise.

In an announcement across the club's social media platforms, Barcelona confirmed Griezmann's signing on a 5-year deal:

'Recover the seven'

Griezmann has since, meanwhile, gone on to enjoy a solid if unspectacular start to life in the colours of the Spanish champions.

The World Cup winner has found the back of the net 14 times in 36 appearances across all competitions thus far.

And while Griezmann has showcased flashes of his unquestionable brilliance, the Frenchman still appears to be finding his place in the ever-changing frontline of the Catalan giants.

Injuries to the likes of Luis Suarez and Ousmane Dembele, along with a change of manager at the Camp Nou, have seen Griezmann too often shifted around, with the 29-year-old having generally been forced into an unfamiliar position on the left flank.

This has even led to suggestions that Griezmann could be on the move after just a solitary season on Barca's books, with the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and PSG named as potential landing spots.

If the latest comments of the striker himself are anything to go by, though, then Griezmann appears to have no intention of moving on anytime soon.

Speaking to fans on Twitch during an eSports contest earlier today, the former Atletico man revealed his hopes of securing the Blaugrana's no.7 jersey at some point, insinuating that he sees his future in Catalunya:

'I would like to recover the seven.'

On life in self-isolation, Griezmann added:

'Quarantine is going okay, but you can't do anything.'

'I miss football enormously. I have no idea when the competition will be back; I don't know when I will go back to training.'
