Tottenham star Son Heung-min is ready to complete national service in South Korea.

Tottenham star Son Heung-min is ready to complete national service in South Korea while the Premier League season is suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic. In South Korea, it's mandatory to complete national service before you're 28 years old.

Son, 27, was exempt from doing his service in 2018, with the Tottenham star instead guiding his nation to the gold medal at the Asian Games.

Son will partake in a shortened four-week regime with Premier League action suspended until April 30 at the earliest due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The Tottenham forward headed home last weekend to complete his duty.

Son is currently sidelined after breaking his arm last month, however, he gave a positive update earlier this week.

He said: "It’s already more than four weeks after surgery now and I’m doing very, very well and working hard to be ready to come back."

Premier League football will not return until April 30 at the very earliest.

It's expected the games will be pushed back even further into the summer, meaning Son will be able to complete his national service without missing any Tottenham games.

The Premier League will consider a number of new rules when they discuss football restarting and when it should return amid the coronavirus pandemic.

VAR could be one of the things changing with the technology potentially being put on hold for the remainder of the campaign.

And with games set to be crammed into such a short space of time, clubs could also push to be allowed to use five substitutes in matches.

All games are likely to be played behind closed doors with the Premier League hoping to get the top flight completed in June and July.

The Premier League, EFL, PFA and LMA released a joint statement on Wednesday regarding when football could return.

It read: “Senior representatives from the PFA, Premier League, EFL and LMA met today and shared a constructive meeting regarding the challenges facing the game as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The meeting reiterated that the overriding priority is the health and well-being of the nation - including that of players, coaches, managers, club staff and supporters – and everyone agreed football must only return when it is safe and appropriate to do so.

“No decisions were taken today with discussions set to continue in the next 48 hours with a focus on several high-profile matters, including player wages and the resumption of the 2019/20 season."
