Liverpool throw-in coach Thomas Gronnemark has explained he could leave for Manchester United or Tottenham.

Liverpool throw-in coach Thomas Gronnemark has explained he could join Manchester United or Tottenham next year and has already rejected a big offer from a club.

Jurgen Klopp appointed the specialist 18 months ago who has helped the Reds retain possession better from throw-ins.

When he joined Liverpool, many ridiculed the idea, but he has proven to be a success at Anfield.

Now, Gronnemark, who works on a freelance basis, has suggested he could join a rival of the Merseyside club.

“I don’t know, maybe I’ll be with Tottenham or Manchester United next year, as I’m not tied down as a freelancer,” Gronnemark told Kicker.

“I’m just not allowed to be a direct competitor in any one season, that’s my rule. That’s why I have already turned down a top offer from England this season.

“But I would very much like to prove myself in Germany. I don’t know of anyone who does it professionally like I do.

“But of course more and more people are recognising the potential, and now some co-trainers are looking into the subject.”

When Klopp hired Gronnemark he explained his thinking and praised the coach.

“When I heard about Thomas, it was clear to me I wanted to meet him; when I met him, it was 100 per cent clear I wanted to employ him,” said Klopp in August 2018.

“Now he is here and we work on that from time to time.

“We use his information as well during the weeks when he is not here. We use it of course for the Academy as well. It’s good.”

Meanwhile, the Premier League have announced it will not resume and the beginning of May and has been suspended indefinitely.

A statement read: “It was acknowledged that the Premier League will not resume at the beginning of May – and that the 2019/20 season will only return when it is safe and appropriate to do so.

“The restart date is under constant review with all stakeholders, as the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic develops and we work together through this very challenging time.

“The Premier League is working closely with the whole of professional football in this country, as well as with the Government, public agencies and other relevant stakeholders to ensure the game achieves a collaborative solution.

“With this, there is a combined objective for all remaining domestic league and cup matches to be played, enabling us to maintain the integrity of each competition.

“However, any return to play will only be with the full support of Government and when medical guidance allows.

“The sporting and financial implications for Premier League clubs as well as for The FA, EFL and National League were considered at today’s meeting.”

At the time the Premier League was suspended, Liverpool were 25 points clear at the top of the table.
