Manchester United are expecting a busy summer transfer window.

Manchester United are three or four signings away from challenging Liverpool for the Premier League title, Old Trafford hero Paul Scholes reckons. Liverpool have ran away with the Premier League title this season, with the Reds boating a 25 point lead ahead of Manchester City.

United, meanwhile, are battling to finish in the top four. The Red Devils are currently fifth, just three points behind Chelsea in fourth.

The signing of Bruno Fernandes from Sporting Lisbon in January gave Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side a major lift.

And Scholes insists United need another three or four top signings to compete with Liverpool and City.

“I still think they are a bit off the pace, they’ve looked good lately since Fernandes came in but Liverpool and Manchester City are streets ahead,” Scholes told BBC Radio 5 Live’s Friday Football Social.

“There are three or four signings that can help but for the first time in a long time you feel like they could close the gap to the top.”

United chief Ed Woodward is ready for a busy summer transfer window.

Jadon Sancho of Borussia Dortmund, Aston Villa's Jack Grealish and James Maddison are all targets for United when the window reopens.

The trio fit the Red Devils' new transfer philosophy of signing young, British talent.

United star Marcus Rashford has been vocal on the club's interest in his pal Sancho, with the England international claiming he'd love to play alongside Sancho at Old Trafford.

He said: "It would be good [if Sancho joined United]. Sancho is a great player.

"He's like the new generation player.

"It's definitely exciting to watch the player he's becoming - hopefully we can all play together. That would be good.

"He plays off the cuff. He's imaginative. I think in this generation, they're the things you need to be world class."

Rashford and United will not be back in action until April 30 at the very earliest due to the coronavirus outbreak.

However, it's expected the season suspension could last until the summer.
