Liverpool target Timo Werner has reportedly set his sights on a move to Anfield this summer, but Jurgen Klopp and co are not prepared to activate his £52m release clause before it expires on June 15

RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner is “ready to sign for Liverpool” if they trigger his £52m release clause, according to reports.

Werner, 24, has attracted attention from some of the biggest clubs in European football after scoring 27 goals in 36 appearances for Leipzig this season.

As well as Liverpool, who reports suggest have long held an interest in the Germany international, the likes of Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid are also said to be circling.

Sky Sports claim Werner has set his sights on a move to Anfield, nonetheless, and is “ready” to join Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Yet unfortunately for the player, Liverpool do not intend to pay his £52m release clause before it expires on June 15.

That release clause was inserted in Werner’s contract when he extended his stay at Leipzig last summer, which will keep him at the Bundesliga club until 2023.

He was believed to be close to signing for rivals Bayern Munich last summer and the German giants remain eager to get their hands on him.

Werner, though, appears determined to join Liverpool, waxing lyrical about compatriot Klopp after scoring the winner in Leipzig’s 1-0 win over Tottenham back in February.

"I know that Liverpool is the best team at the moment in the world,” he told Norwegian TV channel Viasport Football.

"When you're linked with that team it makes me very proud.

"It's a pleasure but I know that Liverpool have a lot of good players and I have to improve myself, to learn much more things to get on this level to play there.”

Liverpool’s reported disinterest in Werner could come down to the fact they currently boast one of the best attacking triumvirates in world football; with Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino developing a formidable partnership over the last few years.
