Tottenham have been linked with a highly-rated Bundesliga striker ahead of the summer transfer window.

Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho has been backed to sign Borussia Monchengladbach star Alassane Plea but was warned that the striker will have to play second fiddle to Harry Kane. That is according to Darren Bent, who believes Plea has what it takes to compete for Spurs but should prepare to sacrifice first-team football if he moves to north London.

The striker has enjoyed an impressive season with Gladbach this term as he has recorded nine goals and another nine assists in 31 matches across all competitions.

According to Bild, Tottenham are among the frontrunners to sign the Frenchman at the end of the season but will have to face some stiff competition from other Premier League rivals in the upcoming bidding war.

Bent, though, believes the 27-year-old would struggle to play regularly due to Kane as there is no way the England international would be taken out of Mourinho's line-up.

The 26-year-old has recorded a whopping 181 goals in 278 appearances for the club ever since getting promoted to the first team.

Bent told Football Insider: “The intensity of is definitely similar to how it is in the Premier League compared to in the Bundesliga, it’s a brilliant league, it reminds me of the Premier League, I love it.

“He’d be a great signing, someone who knows the intensity it takes to make in one of those top leagues but again, if you’re a centre-forward and you’re going to Spurs, you’ve got to be prepared to play backup for a little bit longer.

“Harry Kane’s there, he’s still young enough so you know you’re not going to go there and play straight away.

"For his development, it might be good to play with someone like Harry Kane but if you’re playing well at the club you’re at at the minute, why would you go and sacrifice that to sit on someone’s bench?”

Kane suggested recently that he would be open to a move away from Tottenham if the club no longer meet his ambition.

The forward has been linked with a move to Manchester United in the summer as manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking to strengthen in attack.

However, Tottenham legend Jurgen Klinsmann has urged the star centre-forward to stay put as he is in good hands under Mourinho, who can lead him to silverware.

Klinsmann said: "Jose is an absolutely exceptional coach. Obviously he has his philosophy, his way of doing things.

“With his experience and knowledge, he has an amazing humour as well, I just hope that things will fall into place and they get the success that they deserve.”
