Fiorentina's president Rocco Commisso is commanding a £60m fee for the hotshot who has found the net eight times in 30 appearances this season.

According to Italian news outlet Quotidiano, United are in "pole position" to meet this valuation as they have been the only club to talk about cash up-front.

The Red Devils are in the market for a new attacking star with Daniel James and Jesse Lingard failing to support the likes of Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial this term.

But they find themselves in a four-way battle with the Blues, Juventus and Inter Milan to land Chiesa, who has two years left on his current deal at the Tuscany club.

Chelsea face losing Willian, Pedro and Olivier Giroud on free transfers so he would be a tasty option to fit into any of those roles.

Fiorentina cheif Commisso said: "Chiesa? As we Americans say, the grass is always greener on the other side,

"Federico knows what Fiorentina is, who I am and our fans and where we want to go. Going elsewhere would be a risk for him.

"Chiesa must decide, and as I said, if he wants to leave, I’ll settle as long as the figure is right.

"How much is Lautaro’s release clause? €111 million? Well, I could take a million off Chiesa. No, I’m kidding. As long as the amount is right.

"I’m thinking for the good of Fiorentina. If Chiesa wants to go, our priority will be to get the right financial compensation.

"There are no vetoes for some teams. But right now, I have a splendid relationship with Federico and his father. There is a positive climate that should not be altered.”

Chiesa has been capped 17 times by Italy and is the son of former international footballer Enrico.

The winger joined Fiorentina as a kid in 2007 and it looked like the club were hoping to convince him to remain for some time, offering a new contract doubling his annual wage from £2million to £4m.

But Fiorentina director general Joe Barone has since admitted that Chiesa’s future is up in the air.

And the club may be forced to cash-in on the ace as the coronavirus crisis continues to wreak havoc on finances of clubs across Europe.
