Manchester United have been warned they will need to smash the transfer record to land the Barcelona youngster.

Manchester United have been told that they will need to smash the world record and pay-out an eye-watering £355 million if they want to land Barcelona wonderkid Ansu Fati. United are tracking winger Fati, 17, who is being touted as football’s next big star after coming off Barca’s never ending conveyor belt of talent.

Fati who was born in Guinea-Bissau, West Africa signed his first professional contract last summer and in August became Barcelona’s youngest ever goalscorer.

He has scored six times in 26 appearances so far this season with United who are willing to pay £135 million to land him paying close attention.

But Barcelona rebuffed the first bid of around £85 million and aren’t willing to do business no matter how much money Ed Woodward attempts to put on the table.

The only way Fati will be allowed to leave the Catalan giants is if, which is highly unlikely, United meet the full £355 million buy out clause in his contract.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was eyeing another big spend this summer before the coronavirus crisis and was eyeing the likes of Jason Sancho, Jack Grealish and James Maddison.

But the finances in football could be set to change dramatically due to the virus and clubs are expected to spend much less than usual when the transfer window does open.

United though are one of the powerhouses who could still afford big deals and will be keen to match the likes of Chelsea in the window after they completed the signing of Timo Werner to follow Hakim Ziyech.

Sancho remains their top target for the summer, but Dortmund are growing confident of keeping him which was brought Fati into the picture.

However the fee being quotes would make agreeing a deal with Barcelona unlikely.

United salvaged a 1-1 draw in their first match back since the Premier League restart with Bruno Fernandes scoring from the spot against Tottenham.

And they face a battle for the Champions League spots with Chelsea two points clear ahead of their game in hand over Aston Villa on Sunday.
