Mbappe ends up on crutches as PSG win Coupe de France

Competitive football returned in France as Paris Saint-Germain beat St-Etienne 1-0 in the Coupe de France final.

A small section of supporters from each side were allowed into the Stade de France, with French president Emmanuel Macron also in attendance for the first competitive football match in the country since coronavirus stopped the previous season in March.

St-Etienne came close to taking the lead in the opening stages when Denis Bouanga saw his low shot come back off the post.

The woodwork was struck up the other end minutes later, but this time Neymar's shot did find the back of the net after coming down off the crossbar.

PSG's luck was about to turn, though, as Kylian Mbappe hobbled off with what looked like an ankle injury following a reckless tackle from Loic Perrin.

The St-Etienne captain was eventually sent off for the challenge, which caused mass altercations between both teams and plenty of yellow cards as a result.

Mbappe returned pitchside on crutches in the second half, leaving PSG to fret over his fitness ahead of the Champions League in August.

The forward watched on as his teammates saw out the victory to clinch the delayed Coupe de France title.
