Manchester United may opt not to sell Alexis Sanchez this summer despite their interest in signing Jadon Sancho.

Alexis Sanchez has no plans to return to Manchester United but the Premier League giants are eager to give the Chilean a second chance at the club - despite Inter Milan's desire to sign the forward on a permanent basis. The 31-year-old, the Premier League's highest-paid player on a pay-packet that reportedly rises to £500,000 a week, has spent the season on loan at Inter and rediscovered some form of late.

Since Serie A restarted on June 21, Sanchez has produced three goals and seven assists in 12 league matches for the Milan outfit.

And the Daily Star say that although Inter are open to paying as much as £30million for Sanchez, if he accepts a presumably significant wage drop, United's preference is to get the South American back at Old Trafford.

The Star say United want to give the former Arsenal attacker a chance to revive his career in England, with his performance levels dropping off a cliff after swapping north London for Manchester.

Having mustered a one-in-two record at the Emirates with 80 goals in 166 games, along with 45 assists, Sanchez managed only five goals and nine assists in 45 games at United.

Having picked up his form at the San Siro, though, United hold out hope of him finding better form under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Sanchez is expected back at United after Inter's Europa League campaign is concluded next month but the Star say the ex-Barcelona man has no ambitions to return to England.

He is well aware of the Red Devils' ambitions to sign Jadon Sancho, who Borussia Dortmund are demanding at least £100m for.

United are unwilling to pay as much as that but with the England international established as Solskjaer's top target this summer, United will undoubtedly try to engineer a deal that suits them.

And so their reluctance to sell outcast Sanchez for as much as £30m, which would offer them extra cash on top of the funds raised from Champions League qualification, to meet Dortmund's price tag.

Yet Sanchez does not want to report back to United and has informed his parent club that he sees his future elsewhere, even though club chiefs think he can still be a useful asset to them.

He wants regular first-team football which will not be on offer at Old Trafford, with Mason Greenwood, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and potentially Sancho among the competition for attacking spots.

It appears the Chile international instead sees himself staying at Inter, where he has performed well under ex-Chelsea boss Antonio Conte.

A source told the Star: "Alexis doesn't see the point in going back to Manchester. He's happy where he is.

"It just didn't work out for him at United and wants the club to accept that he wants to leave."

Inter and United are expected to hold talks over Sanchez, who is under contract with the latter until 2022 having joined two years ago in a swap deal for Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

United have paid half of his wages during his temporary stint in Italy but have yet to change their stance on his long-term future and want him to be part of Solskjaer's team next term.

Sky Sports meanwhile report that United are increasingly optimistic of securing a deal to bring former Manchester City trainee Sancho back to the north west of England.

The 20-year-old, who earns £190,000 a week with the Bundesliga outfit, is keen on a switch and personal terms will not be a problem.

Talks are ongoing between the two clubs about a potential way to structure a deal, though Dortmund will not drop their valuation and are relaxed about the situation, which will come to a head in the coming days as they seek a resolution before they start pre-season training on August 10.

United had also held interest in Jack Grealish but have been put off by Aston Villa's £80m valuation and will instead focus on adding to their attack out wide with Sancho.
