Jack Wilshere says he is ‘surprised’ by Arteta’s key Arsenal decision

If Jack Wilshere was still at Arsenal, he would have won his third FA Cup on Saturday. The Englishman won two under Arsene Wenger in back-to-back seasons, but injuries pushed him out the door at the Emirates.

Wilshere shared the midfield with current Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta and with Mesut Ozil. The West Ham man knows both of them very well and he admitted that he is surprised that his two former teammates don’t see eye to eye anymore.

He told TalkSport: “In terms of his footballing ability, I loved playing with him. (Ozil) He’s one of my favourite players to play with. He’d give you the ball at the right time, the right pace. So I’m surprised he’s not playing, but I don’t know what’s going on there with that.

“There must be something that we don’t know because I can’t see why he’s not playing in terms of his footballing ability. Especially with Aubameyang, the type of player he is, you can imagine Ozil sat behind him feeding him balls.

“It would be unbelievable. It’s obviously something that we don’t know about. I’m sure Arteta has definitely got a plan and he’s putting that into practice.”

Ozil’s situation at Arsenal is a strange one. The German had his problems under Unai Emery and barely played a game at the start of the season as a result.

SHOULD ARTETA PLAY OZIL NEXT SEASON?

Arteta’s appointment was viewed by many as a blessing for the Spaniard and it certainly looked that way in his first few games in charge.

Ozil was a regular and he played incredibly well in almost all the games that he featured in before the lockdown. The German was expected to be an integral part of Arteta’s squad when football returned but he hasn’t played a minute since.

Arsenal would love to get rid of him this term but there is very little chance of that happening. If Ozil does stay, Arteta might as well use him, especially considering that the Gunners’ creativity in the final third has been extremely underwhelming.
