Liverpool have agreed a deal to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara.

Liverpool have agreed a deal to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara for a fee of around £27million. Talks have been ongoing for many weeks and Jurgen Klopp has finally struck a breakthrough.

Thiago was a key component of the Bayern side which won the treble last season.

But he decided it was time for a new challenge in May, despite opening talks over extending his stay at the Allianz Arena.

Klopp has been closely monitoring the 29-year-old as he looks to add strength in depth to his squad.

Thiago only has one year remaining on his current contract so is available for a cut-price £27m.

The two clubs have come to an agreement over the fee. Personal terms are still yet to be sorted.

The Spain international can sign a pre-agreement with clubs outside of Germany in January if this deal does not get through.

But it looks all the more likely that Klopp will get the star he made his No 1 target.

There was suggestions that Liverpool could sell Georginio Wijnaldum to fund a move for Thiago but Jurgen Klopp has recently ruled that out.

"It’s all good with Gini," he said. "Absolutely fine about the future as far as we are involved. I can’t speak about a few years, but it’s all good for the moment.

"You know the situation – between me, Gini and the club, everything is fine.

"Since Gini is here I have had 500 or 600 talks with him. Of course I’ve spoken to him since he came back from international duty. But that’s all.”

Meanwhile, Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher recently explained why Thaigo arriving at Anfield would benefit the club.

"Liverpool have got three or four players in the squad they are looking to move on," he said.

"It seems like they have to sell before they buy, that was the case with Dejan Lovren. He had to leave before a left-back could come in.

"Thiago would give Liverpool’s midfield something different, no doubt.

"I think the huge clamour for Thiago is a little bit disrespectful to Liverpool’s current midfield three.

"Yes he would add something different. But if he doesn’t come in, it’s not the end of the world, this is still a fantastic midfield for Liverpool."
