Barry hails Grealish over Villa loyalty

Jack Grealish committed his future to Aston Villa by signing a new five-year deal earlier this week.

That decision has left former Villa and England midfielder Gareth Barry delighted, having found himself in a similar position during his time at the club between 1998 and 2009 amid links to Liverpool.

Barry told Daily Star Sport in association with the BT Sport Monthly Pass: “I think it’s fantastic for Aston Villa firstly - to see Jack Grealish leave would have been devastating for the club.

“For him he is still young and I feel like he still has a lot to do at Aston Villa because he’s not played that many games in the Premier League for them.”

Aulas pokes fun at Arsenal over Aouar

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has poked fun at Arsenal and their pursuit of Houssem Aouar.

Aulas could not resist mentioning the fact the Gunners are either unwilling or unable to fund a move for their star man, who has been given a £44million price tag.

Asked if Arsenal are likely to agree a deal for Aouar, Aulas told journalist Chris Wheatley: “No I don’t think so.

“No offer yet. It seems that Arsenal don’t want to – or can’t – invest the price for Houssem, who is our best player.”

Man Utd 'agree' terms with Alex Telles

Manchester United have reportedly agreed their second transfer of the summer with a move for Alex Telles close.

United signed Donny van de Beek earlier in the window but have been quiet since though Porto star Telles is set to head to Old Trafford.

The left-back helped Porto to the Portuguese league last season and is set to provide competition to Luke Shaw and Brandon Williams.

United had been linked with Real Madrid full-back Sergio Reguilon though he is set to join Tottenham with personal terms reportedly sorted with Telles.

Mohamed Bouhafsi of RMC Sport tweeted: “According to a source close to Porto, agreement reached between Alex #Such and Manchester United.

“Agreement on a 5-year contract. Manchester United will now discuss with Porto. PSG are also on the lookout. Paris is still considering this issue.”

Higuain joins Miami

Inter Miami have confirmed the signing of Gonzalo Higuain following his departure from Juventus.

David Beckham has landed another marquee signing for the MLS club, having also added Higuain’s former Juve team-mate Blaise Matuidi to their ranks.

The Argentinian striker will reportedly become the highest-paid player in the MLS, raking in close to £5million per year.

“We are pleased to close a deal with Gonzalo and add an experienced and successful goal scorer who has excelled in the world’s best teams and leagues,” said Inter chief Paul McDonough.

“Our ownership group has always said our goal is not only to bring elite players to Inter Miami, but also good people that share the ambition of making history in North American futbol, and we’re confident we have found that in Gonzalo.”

Sarr to United?

Manchester United have identified yet another alternative to Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho.

The winger's £108m price tag has put the Red Devils off due to the financial difficulties clubs are facing after the coronavirus pandemic.

United are now looking at Watford flyer Ismaila Sarr instead, according to the Independent.

The Hornets will be hoping to keep hold of their brightest talent this summer after relegation from the Premier League.

But any club wanting to land the 22-year-old must cough up £40m for Sarr's services - the same amount which saw Richarlison depart Vicarage Road for Everton.

Agent confirms Mendy to Chelsea

Edouard Mendy’s agent claims a deal has been agreed to complete his move to Chelsea - and the deal could be done on Friday.

The Senegalese goalkeeper trained with Rennes on Thursday ahead of their clash at home to Monaco in Ligue 1 on Saturday.

But his representative, Djily Dieng, says a €22 million (£20.1m) deal has now been agreed and the deal could be finalised ahead of the weekend.

“The two parties have come to an agreement,” Dieng told Senegalese newspaper Stades.
