Tottenham are set to launch another bid for Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar before Monday’s transfer deadline.

Jose Mourinho is keen to add another centre-back to his ranks this summer following the departure of Jan Vertonghen, who called time on his eight-year stay at Spurs upon the expiry of his contract.

The Portuguese has already bolstered his squad with seven new additions, including Brazilian striker Carlos Vinicius - whose season-long loan move from Benfica was confirmed yesterday.

Yet another defensive reinforcement remains high on Mourinho’s agenda, and football.london claim Spurs will go back in for Skriniar before the window closes on Monday having already approached Inter over the player.

The Italian outfit are said to be demanding £45million for the 25-year-old, yet Spurs are looking to secure a £32million deal which also includes add-ons.

A compromise will therefore have to be found between the two clubs before the transfer window closes.

Skriniar is understood to be 'very keen' on joining Spurs, but Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio insists he is not for sale.

Ausilio told Sky in Italy: “Skriniar? I repeat: there was contact with Tottenham, but we reiterated that he is not on the market and we have not received any special offers.”

Should Inter refuse to offload Skriniar before the transfer deadline, Tottenham could switch their focus to a potential deal for Juventus youngster Merih Demiral.

The Turkish centre-back, 22, is believed to be on their radar along with Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger.

According to the Evening Standard, Rudiger has been deemed surplus to requirements by Frank Lampard at Stamford Bridge this summer.

Spurs are considering tabling a loan offer for the Germany international, which Chelsea would be open to.

He was omitted from the Blues’ squad for their Carabao Cup defeat away at Spurs on Tuesday night, which was the fourth game in a row he has been snubbed by Lampard.

TEAMtalk claim Rudiger actually refused to play in that cup clash because he is pushing for a move away from the club.
