PSG and Istanbul Basaksehir players agreed to return to the pitch after the alleged racist abuse of the latter's assistant manager

PSG and Istanbul Basaksehir players both agreed to continue their Champions League clash after leaving the pitch in solidarity against racism.

Reports suggest Sebastian Costantin Coltescu allegedly called Istanbul Basaksehir assistant manager Pierre Webo 'black'.

This caused a scuffle to unfold on the touchline before all players decided to exit the field of play.

After a period in the changing rooms, both teams agreed to return to the pitch if the fourth official was not involved.

A UEFA statement read: “Following alleged incident involving 4th official match was temporarily suspended. After consultation with both teams was agreed match would restart with different 4th official. UEFA will thoroughly investigate matter + further communication made in due course”

Demba Ba was most incensed by the controversial incident.

The Istanbul star clashed with the officials and argued why such language was used during the incident.

“(When you mention a white guy) you never say ‘this white guy’ you say ‘this guy’ so when you mention a black guy, do you have to say ‘this black guy," Ba could be heard saying."

Rio Ferdinand said of the incident on BT Sport: "I think we're at a disturbing tipping point.

"We had Millwall, then the PSG game today, all in the same week.

"Not a week goes by without an incident involving race and we are at a point where something needs to be done. The powers that be need to make a huge stand.

"That is a step in the right direction (walking off), that is unity, but it cannot just be left to the players to do something about this."

PSG needed to win the game to top the Champions League group, as RB Leipzig and Manchester United also battle it out in Germany for qualification.

Istanbul Basaksehir knew before tonight that they would finish bottom of the group.
