Bruno Fernandes has hit back at Jurgen Klopp over his claims Manchester United get more penalties than Liverpool. The Reds boss had made the comments after his side's 1-0 loss to Southampton in the Premier League.

United talisman Fernandes has rubbished Klopp's observation though and says he really doesn't care.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer criticised the Liverpool manager for trying to influence referees with the comments.

Since the start of last season, United have won 20 penalties compared to 10 for the Premier League champions.

Fernandes has been blunt ahead of the Anfield showdown though and feels the Red Devils get more spot-kicks because of the pace they have in attack with the likes of Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.

He said: "You always see what people say, but honestly, I really don't care. I'm not focused on what they are saying.

"I played in Portugal and when you play for Sporting (Lisbon), Benfica and Porto are always talking about that kind of stuff - sometimes to put pressure on the referee, sometimes just to make some noise in the press.

"The important thing is to score and not to listen to what people say, because penalties are part of the game, for everyone.

"We have really quick players upfront. Anthony is one of the best players one against one in the box, Marcus is another one who is quick and has quick feet who can take the ball away from the defender in a moment.

"It's normal that sometimes because of that they will be tripped, fall and they gain penalties. It is what it is.

"People can talk and say what they want. But, for me and the team, the main point is continuing to do the right things and when we get a penalty, just scoring."

Meanwhile, Solskjaer has admitted no fans at Anfield does give his side a better chance of picking up a result.

He said: "I think football and the results in general have sown how important the fans are.

"We have not lost away in the league since Anfield last year - that is a lot to the fans not being there.

"It is not home or away advantage. Compared to normal it is a bit of an advantage, it is not just a cliche that you need your supporters."

United travel to Anfield for the 4.30pm kick-off against Liverpool on Sunday.
