Chelsea boss Frank Lampard could be sacked by Roman Abramovich in the wake of his side's Premier League defeat to Leicester on Sunday.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has RB Leipzig boss Julian Nagelsmann as his No 1 choice to replace Frank Lampard, according to reports. The Blues boss is under severe pressure at Stamford Bridge after his side’s 2-0 Premier League defeat to Leicester on Tuesday night. And a parting of the ways could soon be on the cards.

Chelsea went into the season expecting to challenge for the Premier League table.

They were seen as the winners of a frugal transfer window after spending big on the likes of Timo Werner, Kai Havertz, Hakim Ziyech and Ben Chilwell.

But Chelsea have been inconsistent this term, with their defeat to Leicester on Tuesday night their sixth of the domestic campaign.

Wilfred Ndidi put the Foxes in front in the sixth minute, with James Maddison then notching just before the interval to make the points safe.

Lampard cut a defiant figure after the match, insisting he was the man to turn Chelsea around.

But while the Blues are against hiring an interim boss, the Independent claim Nagelsmann is their top choice to take over at Stamford Bridge.

The German worked wonders during his time at Hoffenheim, helping the Bundesliga side punch well above their weight in the top flight.

And he’s done a terrific job at RB Leipzig so far, steering them to third in the table behind only Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich.

Thomas Tuchel is reportedly a secondary option for Chelsea, with the German out of work since leaving Paris Saint-Germain last month.

But, at the moment, Massimiliano Allegri is not in the frame to take over.

The Italian was a huge hit during his time at Juventus, helping the Old Lady dominate Serie A during his time at the Allianz Stadium.

Yet nobody will be rocking up at Chelsea just yet, with the Blues determined to give Lampard time to turn the club around.

Meanwhile, Blues star Mason Mount has backed Lampard despite the 2-0 defeat to Leicester being a chastening night for all involved.

"We know we are better than that,” he said.

"We have to have a look at ourselves, look at how we played, see where we can improve and come back stronger next game.

"We were beaten by the better side.

"We know they are a very good team and coming into the game we knew how tough it would be. They set up very well and sometimes you have to put your hands up and say they were better on the night.

"They took their chances. Two goals before half-time affected us and makes it difficult when you’re coming out in the second half.

"When you’re clinical in front of goal you are going to win games. We had a couple but we didn’t score.

"We are disappointed we didn’t win the game. We know we are better than that. We have to have a look at ourselves, look at how we played, see where we can improve and come back stronger next game.”

Lampard said after the match against Leicester: “I can’t get caught up in what the reaction will be because I’d be sitting here all day concerned about it.

"I’m not the only manager to be put under this pressure but the good thing for me is I’m good at handling pressure.”
