David de Gea opens up on efforts to be a leader at Man United

Man United vs Sheffield United

Manchester United are back in Premier League tomorrow evening.

The Red Devils, as of writing, sit top of the English top-flight table, two points clear of 2nd placed Manchester City.

However, City do boast a game in hand, and will be in action on Tuesday evening vs relegation-battling West Brom.

Find out how to watch that game here.

So, there is a good chance that United will actually have been knocked off the PL summit by the time they kick-off at Old Trafford tomorrow, meaning a win against Sheffield United is imperative.

A victory for the Reds on Wednesday should be fairly easy to come by, though.

The Blades sit dead bottom of the Premier League, with just five points amassed from 19 games.

De Gea on being a leader

Ahead of tomorrow's tie, meanwhile David de Gea has opened up on his role in Manchester United's squad.

The Spaniard of course arrived at Old Trafford from Atletico Madrid in 2011.

He has since gone on to cement himself as United's no.1 between the posts for close to a decade.

And now, at 30 years of age, de Gea is evidently taking on a more senior position in the club's squad, having provided an insight into his efforts to act as a mentor for the Red Devils' younger stars:

I'm trying to lead and be a leader. The young lads might look at me and see I have been here a long time, and played a lot of games, and I think the most important thing is to show your experience on the pitch and in the games by trying to help the team.

I try to make big saves in the games and train hard as well. Training is very important too and always to give your all.

I have the experience of winning big titles here. I know the feeling of winning things and, this year, we have an opportunity to win a trophy and we cannot miss big chances.

If the chance is there we have to go for it and fight until the last game to win. I'm trying to give some advice to the young lads and I try to give 100 per cent in every training session and every game to show them that 'come on, we have to be 100 per cent every day and fight for everything.
