  • Intro:

Paris St Germain failed to regain the lead at the top of France's Ligue 1, despite making a thrilling comeback to draw 4-4 at Lyon on Saturday (25th February).

PSG needed to win to overtake Montpellier, who had won earlier in the evening, but had to come back from two goals down, with Guillaume Hoarau equalising in the fourth minute of stoppage time.

The result leaves Paris St Germain second, a point behind Montepellier, with Lyon moving up a place to fifth.

    Script:

Lyon hosted French power house Paris St Germain in France's Ligue 1 on Saturday (25th February).

Needing a win to regain top spot, PSG started strongly, and Guillaume Hoarau gave them the lead in the 21st minute, when he fired home after a cleverly placed free-kick from Jeremy Menez.

But Lyon turned the match around in the space of six minutes.

Striker Bafetimbi Gomis had already threatened Salvatore Sirigu's goal on a couple of occasions and, when Kim Kallstrom played a high ball into the penalty area in the 34th minute, the France international showed great technique to angle a volley past the visiting goalkeeper.

Two minutes later Lyon launched a quick counter attack after Lisandro Lopez helped dispossess Nene deep inside the Lyon half.

The Argentine striker ran all the way into the PSG area, where he was perfectly placed to convert a cross from Michel Bastos.

The home side scored an even better goal just four minutes later.

Yet more 'tekkers', this time from Bastos.

The sweetest of strikes from the Brazilian.

Carlo Ancelotti's unbeaten record as PSG manager was under severe threat, but his side got themselves back into the match just before half-time.

Maxime Gonalons fouled Nene just inside the penalty area, and the Brazilian picked himself up to score the resulting penalty for 3-2.

The second half continued in the same vein, with the goals flying in.

Jimmy Briand restored Lyon's two goal lead when he headed home a Bastos corner 13 minutes after the break.

But PSG substitute Marcos Ceara scored with his first touch in the 73rd minute to set up a stunning finale.

Then, with time running out, the visitors grabbed a dramatic equaliser four minutes into stoppage time.

Home goalkeeper Hugo Lloris had already pulled off a couple of superb saves but he was beaten by Hoarau's flying header from Mathieu Bodmer's cross.

Despite their wild celebrations, PSG's point still meant they failed to dislodge Montpellier from the top of the table, but the nature of the result shows Ancelotti's side don't know when they're beaten.
