Curbing hotel prices in Ukraine and coordinating services in Poland are the main challenges remaining for the organisers with Euro 2012 kicking off in little more than 100 days, officials said on Monday (February 27th).

They were talking at a conference at the Olimpiyskiy Stadium in the Ukrainian capital Kiev.

As preparations for Euro 2012 enter the home straight, the focus at a press conference in Kiev on Monday was how Poland and Ukraine would accomodate the hundreds of thousand supporters.

The two neighbouring host nations have been building and upgrading stadiums, hotels, airports and roads in preparation for the biggest international sports event that either of them has ever hosted.

Boris Kolesnikov, Ukraine's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure, said: "Ukrainian cities, even Kiev, have never receive such an amount of guests, never during all of modern history. That's why for today the problem is orientation in the cities, on which we are working now. It still remains a problem, but we have enough time to solve it."

Meanwhile Euro 2012 operations director Martin Kallen thinks hotels are exploiting the system. He said:

"The possibility of finding accommodation during the championship still remains in both countries. However the high prices which hotels want to obtain are producing a bad image for the host countries and the tournament overall."

Euro 2012 starts on June 8 with Poland playing Greece in Warsaw at the newly-built National Stadium.
