  • Intro:

Chelsea began life after axed manager Andre Villas-Boas with a 2-0 win at Birmingham City on Tuesday in their FA Cup fifth round replay.

Juan Mata and Raul Meireles scored six minutes apart in the second half, while Mata also had a penalty saved, as the west London club set-up a quarter-final against Leicester City.

After the full time whistle Chelsea caretaker manager Roberto Di Matteo reflected on the scoreline - and the mood at Chelsea over the last few days.

"It was just a question of freshening up the team a little bit. Some fresh legs and some energy for a game like this. Wee knew we had to fight so that was the only idea."
(Question: John Terry on the bench as well?)
"Yes, he has done so well to recover so quick, very determined to help the club and we were pleased to see him."

"It has been difficult for the whole club you know, when events like this happen and we have lost a great guy and so you have to deal with it and tonight you have to focus on this game and we have to move on as a club. That is football, that's life and so we have to move forward."

"I think the best time for them was just top show them the pitch tonight and then show them it again on Saturday for the responsibility they have to themselves and towards the club and the supporters and , you know, towards our boss and everybody...it is for their own good as well."
