Marseille seaching for goal against Inter Milan

Tuesday, March 13 2012 by SNTV

  • Intro:

Marseille coach Didier Deschamps is under pressure as his side prepare to face 2010 European champions Inter Milan in the Champions League on Tuesday.

The French club have lost their last four Ligue 1 games to slip eight points behind Lille, who are third - the final place which would guarantee a spot in Europe's elite club competition next season.

Marseille face Inter Milan in Italy on Tuesday looking to preserve their 1-0 advantage from the first leg at the Stade Velodrome and claim a place in the last eight.

    Script:

Marseille were in Italy on Monday, preparing for their Champions League round of 16 second leg against Inter Milan in Italy.

Marseille's last goal was Andre Ayew's injury-time winner that decided the first leg at the Stade Velodrome.

Since then, Marseille have failed to score against Toulouse, Brest, Evian and Ajaccio.

And captain Steve Mandanda's expecting another tough match against Inter Milan.

SOUNDBITE: (French) Marseille goalkeeper and captain Steve Mandanda

"Tomorrow's match will be a very difficult one against a great club with great players so if we want to be competitive and put on a great performance tomorrow we will have to undergo a metamorphosis as you said (compared to our last few matches)."

It's Marseille's longest scoreless run since the 2006-07 season.

But coach Didier Deschamps' hoping Tuesday's match will put an end to that.

SOUNDBITE: (French) Marseille coach Didier Deschamps

"Inter will put us under a lot of pressure with the help of their supporters so we have to be able to resist but we must not be content with that. Our intention is to create problems for them because if we have the good fortune to score a goal then everything gets much more complicated for Inter."

Marseille will be boosted by the return of top scorer Loic Remy, winger Mathieu Valbuena, and defensive midfielder Stephane M'Bia.

Inter, the 2010 winners, are aiming for their third successive quarter-final appearance, while Marseille are seeking to reach the last eight for the first time since lifting the trophy in 1993.
