Brendan Rodgers outlines his plan for Liverpool

Tuesday, July 10 2012 by SNTV
  • Intro:

New Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers believes he can transform Liverpool into a title contending side after 22 years without winning winning the league.

The Northern Irishman took over from Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish after the Merseysiders finished a poor eight last season in the league.

"King Kenny" won the League Cup and reached the final of the FA Cup last season in his time in charge, but it is the Premier League title the club's American owners want. And Rodgers believes his side can do it.

(Do you think that it might take until January before the team gel and play the way you want them to play?)

"Absolutely. I think your game and how you play, your principles of that, is down to the players that you have. You know of course ultimately I like the teams to win and win in a certain style, but it's a style and a way of winning which has become accustomed to Liverpool football club, that's what it's about. But of course it does take time, that's the reality of it, you know, we're football coaches, not magicians and it's something that, like you say, your principals of your game based on your players. But I believe in the players that we have, we've got great qualities and tactically with a few adjustments and a few structural changes to that, I think we can improve, so that's ultimately what we will do. So it's important to make a good start, if we can make a good start it would be great, but ultimately we'll be judged in May and that will be the outcome to finish well by then."

(How seriously will you be taking the UEFA Europa League and the domestic cups in comparison to the Premier League?)

"Very seriously. I'm one I believe if you are in it you want to try and win it, that's my feeling on it. So I'll have a squad of twenty-five players that I hope can see us being strong in every competition. The reality is we want to ensure that we can improve on our league status, that's the reality. In the last three seasons the club has finished between sixth, seventh and eighth, so we want to improve on that and build it and move upwards. But like I say every game you are a player for Liverpool football club the intention is to win and like I say hopefully in the competitions as well we can do very well."
