USA and Spain gear up for friendly

Tuesday, July 24 2012 by SNTV
  • Intro:

The Spanish and United States basketball teams trained in Barcelona on Monday (23rd July) ahead of their Olympic warm-up game.

    Script:

The USA and Spain will play each other again on Tuesday, four years after their Olympic gold-medal basketball thriller.

The game will be played on July the 24th in Barcelona, on the Dream Team's 20th anniversary, making it more than just a friendly exhibition ahead of the London Olympics.

Considered the best basketball team ever, the Dream Team dominated Olympic play en route to a gold medal in Barcelona in 1992, the first games featuring NBA players.

Spanish shooting guard "Rudy" Fernandez remembers them fondly.

SOUNDBITE (English): Rodolfo "Rudy" Fernandez, Spanish national basketball team shooting guard:

"I was born in Barcelona and I watched the games and I think is amazing what (the 'Dream Team') did in 1992. But this team is a very good team too. But I prefer the '92."

The current US squad boasts an equally impressive list of NBA stars. One of them is Kobe Bryant, who has only one thing on his mind.

SOUNDBITE (English): Kobe Bryant, USA national basketball team shooting guard:

"The goal? I mean the goal is to win. Every time you step out there on court, you want to win. We want to play hard. We want to continue to try to get better. And tomorrow night is going to be no different."

During their stay in Barcelona the Americans also played - and beat - Argentina, the 2004 Olympic gold medallists.
