After an extraordinary "Super Saturday" for the host nation, the focus shifted Sunday to whether Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt could retain his 100 metres title.
Bolt eased into the semi-finals, but is facing a stern test in his battle for gold, not least from team mate Yohan Blake, who beat him over the distance in the Jamaican trials.
Fans arriving in the Olympic Park had mixed views on Bolt's chances,
"I think there's only one man there, and that's Bolt, only one man, Bolt - got to be,"
"I'd like Usain Bolt to win but probably he won't win. I think it will be that other guy from Jamaica (Yohan Blake) who beat him in the trials, that's my guess."
"Well, I hope Usain Bolt wins just because he's a superstar, we're coming to see him in the 200 (metres) on Thursday, so we just want him to do really well."
Sunday's clash of the world's fastest men will have to go a long way to eclipse the drama of Saturday, in which the home team clinched six golds, including three in the athletics stadium.
The fantastic haul put pressure on the Royal Mail, which promised to have stamps featuring all GB gold medallists on sale within 24 hours.
"I've collected one for each of my two children, they are only young, so hopefully when they grow up they'll have something to remember, maybe some value in it."
Images of Ennis and GB's certainly appeared to be doing brisk business in the Olympic Park on Sunday.
