The new German soccer season officially starts a week on Sunday (August 19) with the Supercup fixture between Bayern and last season's double winners, Borussia Dortmund.
The first round of the German Cup follows one week later with the Bundesliga kicking off on August the 24th.
It will be the battle of Germany's pre-eminent clubs when Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund meet in the Supercup on August the 19th.
It will also mean the reunion of Michael Zorc and Matthias Sammer - all-time playing greats at Dortmund - now opposition sporting directors.
Zorc is still with Dortmund and is getting fed up of analysing the favourites going into the new campaign.
SOUNDBITE (German): Michael Zorc, Borussia Dortmund sporting director:
(On who is favourite for Bundesliga title) "Almost everything on this topic has already been said but sure, I will repeat one more time. The fact and reality is that FC Bayern Munich is, in a lot of areas, far ahead of us, especially economically. And as soon as we have a turnaround of 300 million (euros) and can spend more than a 100 million on the team, we will always say that our only goal is the championship."
Opposite number Sammer meanwhile was much more concise.
SOUNDBITE (German): Matthias Sammer, Bayern Munich sporting director:
(On prospects for the next season) "We have to work well, really well, and that's what we are going to do."
Bayern Munich lost out in the final of both the German cup and Champions League, while Dortmund secured a league and domestic cup double.
