Australian Samantha Stosur was spared an embarrassing exit on Tuesday (August 14) after she recovered to beat Spain's Anabel Medina Garrigues 6-3 6-7 6-4.zz
Sam Stosur had to work hard to break Anabel Medina Garrigues' break in the first set of their second round tie in the Southern & Western Open in Cincinnati on Tuesday.
But the reigning US Open champion did break the Spaniard and eventually took the first set 6-3.
The momentum then swung in Garrigues' favour, and she displayed a variety of shots from the baseline and at the net to level it at one set all.
Garrigues opened a 4-0 lead in the deciding set, but Stosur won the six straight games to seal a third round tie with either Russian Ekaterina Makarova or Anna Tatishvili of Georgia.
