Dynamo Kyiv suffered a surprise 1-0 defeat against lowly Vorskla Poltava in the Ukrainian Premier League with striker Artem Gromov scoring the game's only goal in the first half on Saturday

    Script:

After four defeats in their opening five league matches, Vorskla Poltava entertained Ukrainian Premier League joint leaders Dynamo Kyiv eager to avoid another loss.

However, it was the visitors who dominated the opening exchanges and had the first meaningful attempt when Oleg Husyev crashed a shot off the bar after a cross from Brazilian midfielder Dudu.

The South American then forced goalkeeper Sergey Dolganski into a fine save as he tipped his audacious attempt over the bar.

Dudu then curled a right-footed strike just beyond Dolganski's left-hand post as Kyiv pressed for the opener.

However, it was the home side who took the lead when Artem Gromov squeezed his shot through the hands of Maksym Koval after 26 minutes.

Poltava held on to the lead until the break, but Kyiv pressed after the interval and their best chance of the second half saw defender Danilo Silva curl a left-footed shot just past the post.

Substitute Ivan Lietava almost doubled the home side's lead late on, but he shot just over the bar.

That win moved Poltava up into 11th place on six points, whilst Kyiv remain in second behind Shakhtar Donetsk who have a game in hand against Chornomorets on Sunday
