Shakhtar scored four after the interval, the first shortly after the hour-mark when Alex Teixeira reacted the quickest to a loose ball in the penalty box.
Substitute Willian then headed a third in the 80th minute to make it 3-0.
Willian's contribution didn't stop there - he would set up Mkhitaryan twice in the last 10 minutes of the game.
The first, after 83 minutes, saw the Brazilian beat his marker before crossing to Mkhitaryan to score
He then completed his hat-trick just three minutes later timing his run into the penalty area perfectly applying the finish with defenders on both sides.
Striker Anatoliy Didenko scored a late for Chornomorets Odesa deep into stoppage time but there was no time for any more late goals.
