Standard Liege travelled to Sporting Charleroi on Sunday.
And Liege wasted no time in taking the lead. 4 minutes had passed when Imoh Ezekiel ran from just inside the opposition half before finishing empthatically.
The equaliser came immediately afterwards with Harlem-Eddy Gnohere showing some cute control in the six-yard box to set himself up to level the scores.
Then in the 36th minute Standard Liege started to pull away - Astrit Ajdarevic making it 2-1 after being teed up by Luis Seijas.
Three minutes later Sporting Charleroi's Elvedin Dzinic was sent off for pulling down William Vainqueur in the penalty area.
It initially looked like a harsh decision by referee Bas Nijhuis but there was clear contact when Vainqueur was clear through on goal.
Luis Seijas put the resulting penalty away with a cheeky dink to make it 3-1 to Standard Liege at half time.
Down to 10-men but certainly not out of the game, a free-kick gave Mijusko Bojovic an opportunity to reduce the deficit to 3-2 with half an hour still to go in the match.
There were to be three more goals but this is where Sporting Charleroi fell apart.
Perhaps it was the heat but after Yoni Buyens scored a fantastic goal to make it 4-2 there was little fight left from Sporting Charleroi.
Another goal from Yoni Buyens plus a second in the game for Ezekiel made it 6-2 to Standard Liege at full time.
A convincing win overall for Standard Liege who stay within three points of league leaders Club Brugge.
