Portugal's league season kicked off at the weekend, with an eagerly awaited battle between last year's runners up Benfica and third placed Braga at the Estadio da Luz.

Following a dull first half, the match certainly lived up to its billing in the second.

Benfica's Eduardo Salvio scored the opener in the 49th minute after Braga failed to clear the ball from a cross.

Four minutes later Braga were on level terms after Benfica's Lorenzo Melgarejo embarrassingly headed the ball into his own goal.

And just moment later Braga added to their tally once more when Benfica failed to clear the ball and Mossoro fired in.

In the 73rd minute Benfica were awarded a penalty when the referee adjudged Braga's Ferreira Douglas to have handled the ball - Also resulting in a red card for a second bookable offence.

Replays however later showed that Douglas was hard done by as his team mate Custodio Dias de Castro was in fact the guilty party.

With the game coming to a close, Oscar Cardozo calmly slotted home the penalty to earn a share of the points with the match finishing at two goals apiece.
