Spain's Dany Torres beat defending champion Levi Sherwood at the Red Bull X-Fighters event in Dubai on Friday.

The city lights were shining bright as the Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour stopped off in Dubai.

Thomas Pages, who had dominated qualifying, had the crowd cheering as he nailed three of the most difficult tricks known to mankind.

But he crash-landed on his last jump, a flip, and was punished hard by the judges as he had to settle for third place.

On a challenging dirt course in front of the world's tallest building, it was Spaniard Dany Torres who took the top spot.

The 2011 World Tour winner narrowly defeated defending champion Levi Sherwood of New Zealand by a score of 3-2.

"In Mexico I had a good final with Tom Pages. This time he has a mistake, he has a crash. But I think he's the best rider in the world. He has tricks that he other riders don't do. This time I win, but I think the championship is really young."

This will be the third straight year that the Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour has made a stop in Dubai but the first in Downtown Dubai.

The next stop is in Glen Helen, in the USA on May 11th.
