Yvan Muller claimed his fourth victory of the season in the first World Touring Car Championship race in Russian on Sunday, resisting strong pressure from Tom Coronel who couldn't find a gap for an overtaking manoeuvre.
Muller was helped by the red flag which suspended the race on lap four, following a crash between Charles Ng and Fredy Barth at the first turn.
This cut the race into two legs, of 4 and 11 laps, which allowed Muller to save and cool down his front tyres.
Coronel was in hot pursuit all the way, but the Frenchman held on to take the chequered flag.
Norbert Michelisz got another podium result for Honda, while Rob Huff and James Thompson were fourth and fifth, respectively.
Denmark's Michel Nykjaer finished seventh and won the Yokohama Trophy race.
Nykjaer then won an action-packed second race to claim his third victory of the season.
The result of the race was affected by a pile-up on lap three that eliminated Coronel, Thompson and Gabriele Tarquini while they were battling for the third position.
Even so, Nykjaer deservedly claimed first place after a an error-free drive. Muller was second and Huff third.
Muller remains top of the drivers' standings on 246 points, Tarquini is second on 133 and Nykjaer is third on 127.
