    Script:

VakifBank Istanbul began their volleyball Women's Club World Championship campaign with a straight sets win over Iowa Ice on Thursday.

Iowa began well, staying in touch with the Turkish team throughout the early stages of the match.

But VakifBank Istanbul were ultimately too strong and came through with a 25-16, 25-12, 25-17 victory.

This second successive defeat for Iowa Ice brings their tournament to a premature close.

And elsewhere Switzerland's Volero Zurich edged a four-set thriller against Chinese side Guangdong Evergrande.

Guangdong Evergrande's campaign had already begun on day 1 of the Championships, with a routine straight sets victory over Kenya Prisons.

The first set was a tight affair that set the tone for the rest of the match.

Volero Zurich eventually won the fourth set 25-21, to win a fascinating contest in four sets, the final score 26-24, 25-21, 29-31, 25-21.
