Dani Sordo won stages four and five at the Rally of Spain in Salou on Saturday morning (26 October) to climb up to second place behind Sebastien Ogier on the leaderboard.

    Script:

World champion Sebastien Ogier had an 8.8 second lead at the Rally of Spain heading into day two.

The Frenchman stayed out on top along the twisting tarmac roads in the early stages of Saturday but found his position under increasing pressure.

Hometown favourite Dani Sordo - who deliberately slowed in a tactical move on Friday - was the quickest over stages 4 and 5.

The Citroen driver was rewarded by taking second place; 6.5 seconds behind Ogier.

Finland's Jari-Matti Latvala slipped down into third position, five tenths of a second further back.

Thierry Neuville of Belgium is also involved in an engaging battle with Mikko Hirvonen for fourth place; the Ford driver holding the upper hand by 3.6 seconds despite complaining of a lack of pace.

One casualty was Andreas Mikkelsen. Starting the day in sixth place, the Norwegian was forced out on stage four and will restart under rally 2 regulations on Sunday.
