Doctors at the hospital treating the seven-time Formula One world champion Michael Schumacher for a serious head injury say that the German remains in a 'stable but critical condition'.

It's been nine days now since the 35-year-old was put into a medically-induced coma in Grenoble after a skiing accident.

His wife Corinna has pleaded for privacy and has asked for reporters to leave the clinic where he is being treated, while a Monday hospital statement stated that no press conferences were being planned for the time being.

State prosecutors continue to step up their investigation into the incident at Meribel, and are trying to obtain smartphone footage which the German magazine Der Spiegel reported had been shot by a bystander.

There is not only speculation surrounding the liability of the ski resort, but also of the maker of Schumacher's helmet which was found broken by the emergency crew on the scene, and indeed the responsibility of Schumacher himself.

Head of the investigation Patrick Quincy will hold a press conference on Wednesday.
