Team Americas were crowned champions of the 2014 Skiers Cup in Zermatt, Switzerland on Thursday - the combined USA and Canadian team defeated Team Europe by a score of 9 to 7 after high winds and warm temperatures forced organisers to cancel the competition following only one event.Script:
Team Americas' victory in the 2014 Skiers Cup was marred after the event was cancelled following only one event as unseasonal conditions in Switzerland forced organisers to call off the Big Mountain section of the competition.
Both teams completed the Backcountry Slopestyle competition earlier in the week with each skier squaring off against a member of the opposing team.
Sam Favret laid down an incredible run for the European side with a massive switch 540, cork 360 followed up by a 720.
Austrian Fabio Studer had the most aggressive run.
He nearly landed a double-flatspin off the first kicker and aired two high-speed double-cliff drops, before topping his run off with a perfect cork 720 tail grab.
For Team America, Sage Cattabriga-Alosa threw down the most creative run of the day, linking two unrepeated cliff-drops with stylish left-side and right-side 360s before completing an impressive run with a backflip at the end.
All this before this year's captain JP Auclair stepped up to the plate.
After a clean 720 and a high-speed cliff-drop he threw down a gigantic double-backflip.
Team Americas' performance in the slopestyle earned the visitors a 9-7 victory over Europe.
The teams then spent Thursday visually inspecting the slopes before a forerunner skier tested the snow - but the team captains held a meeting with all riders before deciding that conditions weren't safe enough to run the event.
With the event called off and Team Americas winning the sole day competition, the fourth edition of the Cup was awarded to Team Americas.
