With the absence of only 5th seed Juan Martin Del Potro, the last eight of the Australian Open boasts the top ranked tennis players in the world.

Three-time Australian Open finalist Andy Murray was taken to four sets by Frenchman Stephane Robert much to the dislike of the British number one.

But Murray responded by taking the next set with relative ease and won 6-1, 6-2, 6-7 (6-9), 6-2 after he converted his sixth match point.

Murray's quarter-final opponent will be Roger Federer, who was an impressive straight sets winner over Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

Federer is chasing his 18th Grand Slam title and was in top form as he won 6-3, 7-5, 6-4.

Tsonga couldn't handle Federer - who has won the Australian Open four times.

The Swiss tennis legend eventually wrapped up the victory by taking the third set 6-4 and completed the match in just an hour and 52 minutes.

The final match of the day was between Agnieszka Radwanska and Garbine Muguruza.

Radwanska made short work of her Spainish oppponent - beating her 6-1, 6-3

The fifth seed will face a far sterner test next against Victoria Azarenka, who is on an 18-match winning streak at Melbourne Park.
