Latvala leads the Rally of Sweden

Saturday, February 08 2014 by SNTV
  • Intro:

Finland's Jari-Matti Latvala holds a narrow 4.8 second lead over Norwegian team-mate Andreas Mickelsen as the second full day of action at the Rally of Sweden came to a close in Karlstad on Friday

    Script:

The conditions at the Rally of Sweden caused mayhem for even the best drivers on the WRC (World Rally Championship) circuit.

Overnight leader Sebastian Ogier had his advantage wiped out after a slide in the snow early on.

The current world champion lost more than four minutes and dropped to thirteenth at that stage.

Former Formula One driver Robert Kubica was also a victim to the weather on stage 12, and again on stage 14.

He needed assistance to get his car back on the road.

Kubica got help from the fans to help get his car back on the road but when he did, the Polish driver had to give way to a fast Mads Ostberg.

Juho Hanninen impressed on his first full day in a Hyundai, but he too came unstuck on stage 12, hitting a rock and damaging his suspension.

Jari-Matti Latvala is now the favourite to claim the Rally of Sweden. The Finnish driver has just a short evening 'super special' stage to come and holds a narrow 4.8 second advantage over Norwegian team-mate Andreas Mickelsen
