Driver walks away after his car explodes in a Funny Car drag race competition in California on Friday

    Script:

This is the moment a drag car exploded during a race in California on Friday.

The cars involved are called funny cars, which means the engine is mounted in front of the driver. Perhaps making it even more remarkable that the 48-year-old driver Ron Capps walked away from the incident.

Various cameras caught the event including one mounted inside the cockpit which shows the terrifying view Capps would've had as his car burst into flames.

Debris from his car flew across the track at the Auto Club Raceway in Pomona where thousands of spectators were watching the NHRA Winter Nationals.
