Plenty of Chinese success at Swiss Open

    There was multiple Swiss Open successes for China on Sunday (16th March), as Chai Biao and Hung Wei won the men's doubles, Bao Yixin and Tang Jinhua won the women's doubles and Wang Yihan took the women's singles title. Elsewhere, victory in the men's singles went to Denmark's Viktor Axelsen while the mixed doubles title went to English pair Chris and Gabrielle Adcock.

    It was a good day for China on finals day at the Swiss Open in Basel on Sunday.

    First to taste success in the men's doubles were fourth seeds Chai Biao and Hung Wei.

    The pair overcoming fellow-Chinese pair Fu Haifeng and Zhang Nan 22-20, 21-14 in just 38 minutes.

    The women's doubles produced a similar result for China's second seeds Bao Yixin and Tang Jinhua.

    Although they lost the first game to Nitya Krishinda Mjaheswari and Greysia Polii, they battled back to take the title.

    Top seed Wang Yihan then made it a hat-trick for the Chinese with her victory in the women's singles, after beating compatriot Yu Sun 21-23, 21-9, 21-11.

    Viktor Axelsen had to overcome fellow Dane and top seed Jan O Jorgensen in the men's singles semi-finals.

    He took the opening game comfortably against China's Tian Houwei in the final, but Houwei fought back as the pair entertained the crowd with some fine badminton.

    But it was Axelsen who prevailed after fighting back from two match points down to win the men's crown.

    The Dane showing how much victory meant to him with a passionate celebration.
